MANILA – State-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has highlighted benefit packages available to members for the country’s top causes of death, underscoring its support for the prevention and treatment of life-threatening illnesses.
Citing data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), PhilHealth said the top five causes of death in the Philippines are ischaemic heart disease, neoplasm, cerebrovascular disease, pneumonia, and diabetes mellitus.
For patients with ischaemic heart disease or blocked heart arteries, PhilHealth said it provides up to PHP523,853 for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), a procedure to open blocked arteries.
Members may also avail of PHP21,900 for Emergency Medical Services, which includes referral and transfer to the appropriate hospital or health facility, PHP133,500 for fibrinolysis or clot-dissolving treatment, and PHP66,140 for cardiac rehabilitation, a program that helps strengthen the heart.
For patients diagnosed with neoplasm or tumors, PhilHealth provides benefits ranging from PHP15,015 to PHP28,860 for benign tumors, and PHP40,911 to PHP73,710 for malignant or cancerous tumors.
For cerebrovascular disease, including stroke caused by blockage or rupture of blood vessels in the brain, members may receive benefits ranging from PHP20,085 to PHP29,640.
Patients hospitalized for pneumonia, a lung infection, may avail of benefit packages ranging from PHP12,870 to PHP29,250, while those diagnosed with diabetes mellitus may receive PHP18,135 to PHP30,810, depending on the case.
PhilHealth also encouraged members to seek medical consultation at its YAKAP Clinic, which provides healthcare services and assistance.
